  • Deprivation techniques – ask consumers to stop using their favorite brand for one week and use a competitive brand. Develop a diary that chronicles what they missed most about their favorite brand and what they liked best about the competitive brand.
  • Point-Counter Point – recruit six category users with three of the respondents loyal to Brand X and three loyal to Brand Y. Assign individuals homework asking them to create a defense strategy on why their brand is best.
  • Weekly Diary – ask respondents to keep a weekly diary highlighting their experiences with a brand. This diary would include words and images that help describe where they were, what they were doing, how did they feel before using the brand, how did they feel after using the brand, etc.
  • Bring A Personal Object – require respondents to bring a personal object to the group that brings to life how a consumer is thinking or feeling.
